4 Activities With Water You Can Do Indoors
When you talk about activities with water, you usually imagine activities that take place outdoors, such as the games you play in the pool, on the beach or in the garden. But there are so many more options, including activities that one can enjoy indoors.
Do you have difficulty coming up with any ideas? We give you several suggestions in today’s article.
4 activities with water you can do indoors
Blow bubbles into the water
This is an excellent scientific experiment for preschoolers. You need a large bowl or bucket that you fill with water, as well as a straw and a sponge. When you have all the things, just do this:
- Fill the bowl or bucket with water.
- Blow air into the water using the straw and observe how this creates small bubbles that float to the surface and pop up.
- Put a dry sponge in the bottom of the bowl or plate and squeeze it. Note how it then releases small air bubbles. Then release the sponge so that it floats up and releases larger bubbles.
Make your own rainbow
This is another easy water activity that you can test at home. Before you start, you need to make sure you have the following materials: a large bowl or plate, a mirror and a piece of white cardboard. Then follow the steps below:
- Fill your bowl or plate with water and place it in front of a window through which the sun shines.
- Place the mirror in the water. Set it in such a way that the part that is in contact with the water catches the sun’s rays through the window.
- Place the white cardboard board in front of the mirror and move it slowly until you see all the colors of the rainbow.
- Now study the rainbow you have created.
But now you have to wonder for yourself how this works? It has to do with the fact that sunlight consists of seven colors. And by following the steps above, you separate these seven colors and create a rainbow.
Activities with water you can do indoors: Water xylophone
To make a water xylophone, you only need six glasses or cups, water, caramel paint and a wooden stick. Then follow the steps below:
- Place the glasses in a row, next to each other and pour in different amounts of water in all the glasses.
- Then drip a little caramel color into each glass in such a way that each glass contains water with different beautiful colors.
- Gently tap each glass with the wooden stick and listen to the different notes.
- Create melodies and play songs by combining the different sounds and tones that the glasses produce.
Bubbles inside bubbles
This is our last suggestion in our list of activities with water you can do indoors. The materials you need are detergent, liquid glycerin, a straw, a glass or plastic container, a dishcloth and a flat surface (eg a table). Then follow the steps below:
- Mix 0.5 liters of water, 2 dl detergent and 1 dl liquid glycerin in a container.
- Moisten the dishcloth with the mixture. Using the damp cloth, spread a thin layer of the soap mixture on the flat surface.
- Blow on the surface with a straw and observe how a soap bubble forms.
- Now comes the interesting thing. Insert the straw very carefully into the bubble and blow again. If you are careful, you will create a new bubble inside the one you just created. You can repeat this process several times and create larger and smaller bubbles inside each other. But remember to be very careful, because they can crack at any time!
