Homemade toys – guaranteed fun

Do you want your children to play with toys that they have made themselves? Do you want to teach them about recycling and caring for the environment? Do you think it’s ridiculous to waste huge sums of money on toys that they quickly get tired of?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, homemade toys are for you. In addition to the above benefits , the toys also provide an opportunity for the family to spend a fun afternoon together as you put screens and technology aside.

Some good toys are mentioned below:

Castles and rockets made of cardboard

Household paper has paper tubes that are often thrown away. If you collect some paper tubes from both kitchen paper and toilet paper, you can make toys for both girls and boys.

You can, for example, make a castle. Simply take three or four tubes and cut them into different sizes. Then you can make the roof by using cardboard or paper cones of cardboard or paper and glue. Paint the castle walls as brick or facade.

Rockets require a paper tube, a paper cone and a cardboard plate. You can paint them however you like or decorate them with colored paper and glue.

2. Dolls and puppets

Toddlers think puppetry is great fun. What would they like to create the characters of the story themselves and then put together a theater show for the whole family?

To make dolls, you can use old gloves and socks and paste on eyes and ears made of cardboard and wool. If you want to make puppets, you also need yarn, a stick, corrugated cardboard and glue.

The manufacturing process itself is quite simple. First of all, you need to make the shape of the character and be sure to attach the threads to the arms and legs. Then attach the pin to the other side. If you did the right thing, the puppet will come to life by touching the threads.

3. Geometric colors and shapes

Depending on the age of the children, you can teach them colors, numbers, letters and even shapes by using homemade toys. You do not even have to use a lot of material for it.

For example, you can make geometric divr from thick cardboard. Then paint the cardboard in the same color as the shape. Ask your child which pair fits together. The child will learn through play.

4. Fishing games

With a little imagination and creativity, you can make some really fun children’s games. An example is fishing games where you use dressed fish. Start by cutting out fish shapes from colored fabrics. It’s pretty simple.

Then you put a loop of wool that should look like the fish’s mouth. For the fishing rod, you need a stick, some wire and a hook made of paper clips (or something similar) on top.

Lay the fish on the floor. The child, whether sitting on a chair or standing, must catch the fish by hooking the clip through the loop. You will have fun for hours!

homemade toys

Homemade toys are suitable for all ages. Use what you have at home and let your imagination run wild.

We advise you to have a box or bag at home where you can store craft materials. Take advantage and use crafts on a rainy afternoon when the usual games and toys do not catch the children’s interest.

What should you save? Plastic bottles, corrugated cardboard, wire, boxes, lids, colored paper, buttons… Basically almost everything that should have gone to waste but can be recycled. Your kids will love doing something different and you can help them make toys and play with the family.

Homemade toys are definitely a great idea for creating a world full of adventure. They also give children an opportunity to enjoy something they have done all by themselves. If the children are really small, you should make the toys for them yourself. Then surprise them with a really fun gift.
