Mr. Indifferent: A short film about the value of helping others
Mr. Indifferent is a very serious and selfish man who does not care about others and only cares about his own worries. In fact, in the first scenes of the short film, we can see the following:
- The man closes the elevator doors just as a woman runs to catch the elevator.
- He does not seem to care at all when he sees a little girl’s balloon slipping out of her hands.
- The man offers no help and shows no concern when another man’s shopping cart rolls away from him.
- Mr. Indifferent ignores a woman who collects signatures for a good cause.
In all these situations, the man could, with just a simple gesture, have helped these people. However, he preferred to behave as if they did not exist.
All this changes when he gets ready to cross the street at a pedestrian crossing. Suddenly and to his surprise, an elderly woman grabs his arm so he can help her cross the street. The man can not say no, so at a very slow pace they cross the street together. But all of a sudden a car comes towards them very fast and almost drives over them.
Mr. Indifferent is a changed man
After crossing the street, the woman thanks the man for his help and pinches his cheek as she smiles at him. It is then that this lonely man changes his view of the world and decides to change his behavior.
In the following scene, we can see this change in attitude by observing how his actions contrast with those he exhibited earlier. For example:
- He prevents the elevator doors from closing so that a woman can step on the elevator.
- Mr. Indifferent immediately rescues a little girl’s balloon when she loses her grip on it.
- He decides to stop at a booth where a woman asks for support for a good cause and signs her name collection.
- In addition, he volunteers to clean up the rubbish on a beach, take care of some children, donate blood and keep elderly people in a nursing home. By doing all these things, he realizes that he is much happier.
One day, while out walking, the man meets another very serious and lonely man at the crosswalk. Therefore, he decides to put on his sunglasses and take a cane, as if he were blind. Then he grabs the serious man by the arm, just as the older woman had done to him before. By doing so, he hopes to open the man’s eyes and show him how satisfying it can be to help others.
Conclusions about the value of helping others…
This short film helps us understand that it is never too late to start helping others. In addition, it is never too late to teach your children about the value of volunteering.
It is always best to teach children to show solidarity from an early age. That way, you can guarantee that they bring civil and social values to life.
Encourage your children to perform small gestures to help others. For example, donate toys and clothes to those who need them, encourage them to offer their support and friendship to more vulnerable classmates, etc. Both you and your children will learn an important lesson for life.
